Holiday Self-Care – Avoid Work and Focus on Yourself

“I can get that done during the break.” “Do you want to meet up during the break to work on that project?” “I can answer a few emails while watching a movie with my family.” I wish I could say that none of those statements ever applied to me. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. I have been guilty of viewing the holidays or any other breaks as opportunities to get ahead or catch up with work. Over time, I’ve learned how important it is to dedicate time to holiday self-care.

The Illusion of “Free Time”

In the midst of the holiday season, many of us are feeling the pressure to juggle work, social obligations, and holiday preparations. The “free” time we have during the holiday season can be misleading. We may think that we have plenty of time to complete all of our tasks and obligations, but the truth is that we often underestimate the time and energy required to do so.

Holiday Self-Care Reflection

Are you guilty of thinking about the holidays as “free” time for work instead of relaxation?

You Can’t Do It All

I can already hear some of you saying that you just have to find a way to get it all done, that you have no choice.

Trying to do it all and be everything to everyone may seem like the right thing to do, but it is not a sustainable approach. Instead of trying to juggle multiple tasks at once, we should focus on prioritizing and completing one task at a time. This will not only help us to be more productive and efficient, but it will also reduce our stress and prevent us from burning out.

Have you ever tried to get it all done, only to be disappointed when you didn’t?

Holiday Self-Care is About Recharging

On the other hand, when we fully relax and let go of our to-do lists, we give ourselves the opportunity to recharge and refocus. By taking the time to rest and recharge, we can return to our tasks with renewed energy and focus, and be more productive in the long run.

The holiday season is the perfect time to practice relaxation and let go of the need to constantly be productive. Instead of trying to check everything off our to-do lists, we can take the time to focus on ourselves and We can also use the holiday season as an opportunity to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the year ahead.
