UnidosUS (formerly National Council of La Raza), the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, announced today that 15 leaders from across the country were selected from a competitive pool of applicants as the 2019 Fellows for the National Institute for Latino School Leaders (NILSL). I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of those leaders.

YES Prep Gulfton was the recipient of a $100,000 grant from the Houston Texans through the National Football League Foundation Grassroots Program and a $200,000 grant from the School Parks Program (SPARK Park) to renovate the school field. DACA Press Conference
I was invited to stand beside city leaders when the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held a press conference urging Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, along with all congressional leaders, to act on finding a permanent solution protecting the more than 800,000 DACA recipients currently in the country. In conjunction with Mayor Sylvester Turner, regional elected officials, business, and community leaders, the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is calling on national leaders to provide a clear path to citizenship for all DREAMers – more than 68,000 of which live in the Greater Houston region.
